Composite Decking in London.

Composite decking is a fairly new idea and the quality of the raw materials are now of an extremely high standard. The Greater London Decking team have a lot of experience using composite decking and are glad to offer it to clients as an alternative to wood. Composite decking has many advantages over traditional hard and softwoods including the following.

  •          Zero slip
  •          Zero maintenance
  •          High strength
  •          Zero cracking or splintering
  •          No change in colour over time
  •          Sleek and minimalist finish

Generally composite decking is made up of 30% wood fibres and 70% plastic. It has been specified for the new Olympic stadium in Stratford and because of this has had to undergo huge amounts of testing and scrutiny. The total amount of decking at the new stadium is around 4000m2!

Composite decking can difficult to work with for someone without experience. Although you use the same tools as you do when working with wood the boards behave differently when cut, planed, scribed or drilled. One thing the Greater London Decking team like is that every board is exactly the same size and perfectly straight. Traditional decking timbers are a natural product you can’t always guarantee this.
